EMPORIA, VA (WWBT) - One of two armed and dangerous men is now behind bars in connection with the shooting of an Emporia Police officer.
Calvin Evans was taken into custody around 11 a.m. after police took out warrants for his arrest on conspiracy to commit capital murder. Police are still looking for Rakei D. Stokes for the attempted capital murder of Officer William King.
Police say the shooting happened after a homicide investigation that lead to the arrest of Christopher Powell for the fatal shooting of George Cain III.
As Officer King was walking Powell to his police cruiser, another round of shots were fired and one of those bullets struck officer King in the leg. He was sent to the hospital and has since been released.
Police say Stokes should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with any information should contact either Detective Jerry Wright or Sergeant Stan Allen of the Emporia Police Department at 434-634-2121.
