VCU nipped by Wisconsin

NEW YORK, NY (WWBT) - - Melvin Johnson scored 21 points, but it wasn't enough to power VCU past Wisconsin, as the Rams were nipped by Wisconsin on Sunday, 74-73, in the third place game of the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Johnson hit a go-ahead jumper with 30 seconds left, before Wisconsin's Bronson Koenig scored the eventual game-winner with six seconds to play.

VCU rallied from eleven points down early to take a lead late in the first half and held a 43-37 advantage at halftime.

The Rams will be back in action on Wednesday, as they host American at the Siegel Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00pm.
