Thief carjacks, assaults man in Richmond's East End

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond police are searching for a carjacking suspect who robbed and struck a man near Oakwood Cemetery Wednesday morning.

A man was standing outside his car near Briel and North 35th streets around 10:45 a.m., when a man with a gun asked him to hand over his valuables, police said. When the victim said he didn't have anything, the thief struck him in the face, took his keys and drove off in his car, according to investigators.

Officers found the car five blocks away in the 1100 block of N. 35th street, but the suspects were gone. Officers are still investigating and talking to witnesses. The victim suffered a minor injury to his face.

The suspect is described as a black male, 30-40 years of age, approximately 5'10" tall and 180 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a tan jacket and a black skull cap. He was medium to brown complexion and had a goatee.
