Venture Forum RVA announcing its "Companies to Watch"

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Venture Forum RVA is about to announce its annual RVA Companies to Watch Wednesday evening. These are growing companies expected to make an even bigger impact on Richmond's economy.

Here are two of the finalists:

Tenant Turner does what the name says. This web company helps property owners find reliable renters. "A lot of quality tenants fall through the cracks because they're calling after hours or over the weekend. With our software, we're able to vet and schedule people," co-founder James Barrett explained. The site shows renters available homes and collects their information, like income, move-in date, and whether they have pets, screening them to find the best suited candidates for each property. The site helps the renters, too, matching them with properties meeting their needs.

"They input what their desired move-in date is, how they long they plan on living there," Barrett said. Tenant Turner has already grown from one to nine employees this year and has clients across the country. "The ultimate goal in 2016 is to be able to hire more people in software development, customer service, account management as well as sales and sales support," Barrett said.

Gelati Celesti is digging in for some big growth, too. The hand-made ice cream company was founded 31 years ago in Richmond. "They created a process to make an ice cream that is distinctly different than anything else around here," Steve Rosser said.

He and his wife Kim Rosser bought the company in 2010 and quickly expanded. "We realized we had to have more capability to make more ice cream, so we built a production facility in 2011," he said.

The Rosser's opened three local stores and a food truck, and started selling to thirty local restaurants. They hope to keep growing and take an even bigger scoop out of the ice cream market.

Venture Forum RVA will announce it's Companies to Watch competition winners at the Hippodrome Wednesday night from 5:30 to 8:30. Click here to register to attend.
