Richmond cab company to alleged sexual assault victim: 'We owed you better'

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Police have launched an investigation into an alleged sexual assault inside a Richmond taxi cab.

Managers at Napoleon Taxi confirm they are co-operating with detectives. Sources say the female victim paid the fare that night, but decided to contact police the next day. She recalled a night in which she allegedly fell asleep in the taxi and woke up with her pants unzipped.

"We owed you better," Napoleon Taxi president Chris Brevard said when asked what he would tell the alleged victim. "It's very upsetting when we hear that one of our drivers was even speeding much less somebody that might have made an advance on one of our customers. It's intolerable."

Brevard says he takes great efforts to ensure customer safety. Each car has a GPS system tracking the drivers every move and a camera is rolling throughout the entire ride. Brevard says he shared that video with police.

"The video doesn't show a sexual assault," Brevard said. "However it does show poor judgment and bad intent. We have an absolute zero tolerance policy with our drivers making any kind of advances with our customers. It was definitely an advance. We take these type of allegations very seriously; therefore, we have terminated the contract of the driver in question."

Richmond police say they are still in the early stages of this investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
