RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - You'd have to see it to believe it. A car plowed through a fence and landed in a backyard swimming pool in Richmond's north side, off the 3800 block of Seminary Avenue. Richmond police say the driver lost control on West Laburnum Avenue, and then careened over bushes, broke through a fence, and then landed on top of the covered, in ground pool. The car quickly started sinking. The driver was able to make it out safely, and was rushed to the hospital with minor injuries. Meantime, the homeowner was left with the car in the middle of the swimming pool. Neighbors passing by found it hard to believe this was happening.
"Drinking your coffee, through your house window you see a red car in your pool. That is very, very crazy. I'm just so concerned about the person, make sure they're okay. And I thank the ambulance too. They do a good job," said Richard McIntosh.
The driver, 19-year-old Terrell Williams of Henrico, is now charged with reckless driving.
