BLACKSBURG, VA (WWBT) - Brenden Motley threw three touchdown passes, all to Isaiah Ford, as Virginia Tech earned its first ACC win of the season with a 28-13 victory over NC State at Lane Stadium on Friday night.
The Wolfpack threw the first punch, jumping out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter, but the Motley-Ford connection came to life in the second frame. The duo connected for all three of their scoring strikes in the second quarter, sending the Hokies to the locker room with a 21-10 advantage.
After NC State tallied a third quarter field goal, Travon McMillian slammed the door with a 59-yard touchdown rush, the first TD of his collegiate career, capping off the scoring. He finished the night with a team-high 97 rushing yards.
Hanover product Sam Rogers put together a solid showing, tallying a career-high 57 rushing yards.
The offensive line was much improved from Saturday's rough performance against Pittsburgh, in which the unit allowed seven sacks of Motley. The quarterback was able to stay on his feet for most of the evening, as he was only sacked once. He threw for 158 yards, the three touchdowns and did not throw an interception.
Virginia Tech hits the road next Saturday, traveling to Miami.
