Increased police presence at Highland Springs HS after threat

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Henrico Police are stepping up security at Highland Springs High School after an alleged threat was found on social media.

The HSHS principal sent the following letter to the school community around 7:21 Thursday morning.

Good morning Highland Springs family,
Late last night, it was brought to our attention that a concerning statement was made that was then being spread on social media. We have since begun an immediate plan of response and action, including collaboration with Henrico Police and Central Office personnel to properly address the situation and ensure the safety of our school community. As a result, we will have additional Henrico Police officers present on our campus today.
I want to thank our students and families who have brought this matter to our attention. Your diligence is exactly what we need and want from our school community.
We look forward to a positive and productive day here at Highland Springs, and as always please don't hesitate to contact me if you have concerns you'd like to discuss.

Police are also increasing patrols in a response to threats at two schools in the West End.

Parents can expect to see an extra police presence at Mills Godwin. School leaders say a gun was drawn on the bathroom wall.

And at Hungary Creek Middle school, police are also stepping up patrols. Police found threatening messages on the girls' bathroom wall of the middle school. They haven't said exactly what the messages said, but did tell us the threats were geared toward the school.
