RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Police officials in Roseburg, OR are holding a 1:30 p.m. ET news conference on Thursday's deadly shooting at Umpqua Community College.

Chris Harper Mercer, 26, armed with multiple guns walked into a morning writing class at the community college Thursday in a rural Oregon town and opened fire, hitting some students with multiple gunshots. One witness said the attacker demanded to know students' religion before shooting them.

At least nine people were killed, a federal agency tells the AP. The gunman had body armor and was armed with three pistols, a rifle and five additional magazines, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Seven others were wounded. Mercer died after a shootout with police.
