VSP: shots fired at trooper, civilian vehicles near Bells Road

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Virginia State Police investigators are urgently looking for anyone who may have information after shots were fired at trooper and civilian vehicles near Bells Road.

The shooting happened around 1:13 a.m. A State trooper says he heard a loud pop sound and his windshield cracked while in his vehicle on I-95 south. He pulled over and moments later, another vehicle driven by a Goochland resident pulled over behind the trooper vehicle. The driver said he had heard two loud pops and his front windshield was also shattered.

After inspecting their vehicles, police say they found damage from a small caliber weapon to both vehicles.

While police are not calling this a sniper situation, they have increased patrols in the area. Police dogs were also sent to search for evidence but found nothing at this time.

If you have any information that can help, or have experienced a similar situation on Bells Road, call Virginia State Police at 804-553-3445.
