CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield crews are working to repair a gas leak in the Deer Run neighborhood that prompted an evacuation.
The gas line was cut by work crews around 10:30 a.m. in the 6800 block of Deer Run Drive, according to Lt. Jason Elmore with Chesterfield Fire. The road is closed and 20 homes were evacuated around Deer Run Court, Deer Run Way, Deer Run Lane and Velvet Antler Drive.
Columbia Gas is at the scene. The gas line has been shut off and crews are working to repair the line. They say there is no longer a hazard in the area, and families will be allowed to return to their homes shortly. The repairs to the line are expected to be complete in the next 30 to 45 minutes.
