RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond 2015 cycling action continues for the UCI Road World Championships on Tuesday with a pair of Individual Team Time Circuit events.
The Junior Men Individual elite Time Trial begins at 9:30 a.m. at 3rd and Leigh streets and continues until 1:05 p.m. The Elite Women will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Time Trial Circuit course
The Time Trial Circuit course begins near N. 3rd and E. Leigh streets by the Greater Richmond Convention Center then heads west on Broad Street down Belvidere Street past VCU and the Fan District on Monument Avenue before turning around to head east toward Monroe Park. Cyclists then head south down Belvidere, over the Lee Bridge before heading back over the bridge crossing the James River again. The race then heads back down Broad Street, along Main Street downtown and north up a steep hill on Governor Street before finishing at 5th and Broad streets.
Time Trial Circuit course traffic
The race will close several highway ramps:
- The West Broad Street exit off Interstate 95 (Exit 74C) will be closed to both northbound and southbound traffic for the duration of the World Cycling Championships.
- The I-195 Downtown Expressway Belvidere Street exits will be closed on Saturday
The roads around the course will be closed from around 8:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Traffic will be allowed to cross the course at Franklin and Harrison streets, and along Main Street at 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th streets.
Parking, shuttles and bus information
Parking is available for $10 per day and includes a free shuttle service. Payment can not be made in cash.
Each lot opens at 7:30 a.m. and remains open until 6:45 p.m. On Tuesday lots are available at City Stadium and the Diamond. The shuttle will take fans to the various lots and the venue at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.
GRTC also offers bus service and is selling a $35 unlimited ride pass for the World Cycling Championships.
Where to Watch
Coverage of the Women's Elite Individual Time Trial will air on NBC Sports network from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
NBC12 will have live reports during 12News at 6 and 11, with the newscasts streaming on the NBC12 News app.
The best place to watch in person will be at the Fan Zones near the start line and near the finish line along Broad Street downtown, which will feature a Jumbotron. The other prime option is the free FanZone near the finish line at 5th and Broad streets, which will also have a beer garden. Inside, check out the FanFest at the Greater Richmond Convention Center from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will also have a Jumbotron with live race coverage, a KidZone, vendors and the official award ceremonies.
You can also watch the action from Monument Avenue, Monroe Park and Governor Street.
The weather is expected to be comfortable and clear for the races with temperatures in the 70s.
