RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond 2015 kicks off with the Opening Ceremony for the UCI Road World Championships on Brown's Island.
The event will be hosted by NBC12 meteorologist Andrew Freiden and will include performances by the Richmond Symphony and American Idol star Rayvon Owen. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free, but tickets are "sold out."
Directions and Parking
Brown's Island is located at the bottom of 12th Street in downtown Richmond between the Haxall Canal and James River. The main public entrance is located at the corner of 7th and Tredegar streets.
Parking is located in decks at:
- 5th and Byrd streets
- 12th and Canal streets
- Canal St. between 9th and 10th streets
Also, in lots at
- 3rd and Cary streets
- 4th and Cary streets 5th and Canal streets
- and 6th and Canal streets.
The weather is expected to be cool and clear for the ceremony with temperatures in the 70s.
What to bring
Organizers say to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, but leave pets, bikes and skateboards at home.
Food and Drink
Vendors will be selling beer and wine on-site, so leave outside food and drinks at home. The exception is one sealed bottle of water per person. Coolers, alcohol, glass bottles and large backpacks will not be allowed in.
The event will not be televised. NBC12 will have live reports during 12News at 6 and 11, with the newscasts streaming on the NBC12 News app.
