Chesterfield Police: 'All clear' after car theft near Greenfield ES

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Chesterfield Police have given the "all clear" after searching the area near a Chesterfield elementary school for a car thief.

Officers found the stolen car around 10 a.m. in the 1900 block of Denton Drive, just a few blocks away from Greenfield Elementary School. The suspect ran off, launching a police search.

Police were able to arrest a suspect around 30 minutes later in the 10800 block of Grenada Road. The school was then given the all clear and the principal of Greenfield Elementary School sent out the following notice to parents after a police situation near the school:

Dear Greenfield Families,

This morning Chesterfield County Police alerted us to an ongoing investigation within our community. We were advised at that time to lock all doors but were not required to go into a lock down situation. As a precaution we refrained from all outdoor activity.  As you know it's our practice to keep all doors locked at all times; this helps us maintain a safe learning environment.  Chesterfield County Police has advised us that the situation has been resolved.   Your children are safe and we are continuing with our daily routine.

Sincerely,

Mary Dunn

Principal
