Joe Morrissey announced Friday he is temporarily suspending his campaign for Virginia State Senate due to a medical issue.
Morrissey is seeking medical care for a paralyzed diaphragm at the JFK-Johnson Rehabilitation Institute in Edison, NJ, his campaign said in a news release.
No other information was immediately available, including how the treatment will impact his ability to continue a run for the Virginia 16th Senate district against Democrat Rosalyn Dance.
"I was surprised to hear of Mr. Morrissey's health issue," wrote Sen. Dance in a statement. " I wish him well and will pray that God grants him a speedy recovery."
The election is set for November 3.
