PRINCE GEORGE, VA (WWBT) -

A tractor trailer fire shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 295 on Tuesday night.

Virginia State Police say the tractor trailer went off the road around 9:30 p.m. at mile marker 6 in Prince George County. The truck then struck a guardrail, which caused it to catch fire.

The driver was able to get out safely, and no other vehicles were involved.

The truck, which was hauling lettuce and spinach, was completely consumed by the flames. Southbound lanes of I-295 were shut down through the night, as crews cleaned up the scene. All lanes were finally re-opened by 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the truck, 45-year-old Massimo Reja of Canada, was charged with reckless driving.
