RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has officially named Kirk Cousins as the starting quarterback for the team, the team announced on their Facebook page.
"It's Kirk's team," Gruden said in the Facebook post.
When asked during a press conference if RGIII lost the starting quarterback because of injuries or performance, Gruden replied, "performance."
Redskins coaches and front-office officials want to either trade or cut RGIII, sources told ESPN.
His only advocate, and the reason he's still there, is owner Daniel Snyder.
The report says the team has already engaged in trade talks with several teams.
ESPN also reports that Kirk Cousins will start for the team in the regular-season opener.
After Griffin was sidelined by a concussion, Cousins went 20 for 27 for 190 yards and a touchdown on a deflected pass. Colt McCoy started the third quarter and produced touchdowns on his first two drives, completing 10 of 12 passes for 95 yards and two TDs, both to Rashad Ross.
