RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond Police identified a body found over the weekend by a man walking his dog.

Police say Almon L. Winston, 37, was found dead in the 1500 block of Greenville Ave. with a gunshot wound on Saturday around 9:45 a.m. A man, who chose to be identified as "Larry," says he found Winston's body on his Saturday morning walk with his dog.

"He was sniffing all around by the bushes and I just happened to look over and see a persons foot hanging out of the bushes," Larry told NBC12 over the weekend.

The homicide was the 23rd of 2015 in the city. Police say they had several reports of gunshots on Friday night, but officers didn't find anything.

The Medical Examiner is now working to determine the cause and manner of Winston's death.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
