Last week, we had the opportunity to see all of the Republican candidates engage in what was billed as the great Republican debate. By many measures, the FOX broadcast was considered to be a real success. 24 million Americans watched this debate, making it the most watched primary debate ever, and it generated the highest rating in the 20-year history of FOX News.
Many say that the key draw for the record viewership was the presence of Donald Trump. Various pundits said that his commanding lead in the various polls would be tarnished after a rough-and-tumble debate, but the opposite appears to be true.
So what does the unorthodox "in your face" Trump campaign and his early success say about the state of politics in America? I would venture to say that many Americans are indicating that they are ready for more than “politics as usual”.
Donald Trump might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I can say with confidence that you better get used to seeing him on the nightly news. Let’s face it, he is a news organization’s dream come true.
In the end, will Donald Trump win the Republican nomination for President of the United States…..only time will tell?
