CHESTER, VA (WWBT) -

After searching for more than two hours Thursday, Chesterfield Fire dive crews found and pulled the body of a 2-year-old girl who had fallen into the water near Henricus Park.

Bystanders saw the girl fall off the end of a dock and go into a James River inlet around 4 p.m., according to firefighters. The father, who was with the little girl, immediately jumped in the water after her, but was unable to locate her.

The father yelled for help and a nearby witness called 911.

Fire officials say the water in the inlet is murky and has a slow current. Several boats and a helicopter worked to try and find the child. Henrico Fire assisted Chesterfield officials with the search.

Shortly after 6 p.m., officials say the little girl's body was located about 15 feet from the dock that she fell off of. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
