Restaurant Report: Fly in food, roaches in kitchen, chicken tossed

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - There are some pretty serious violations in this week's Restaurant Report.  We're talking a fly in some food, roaches in the kitchen, and some chicken that had to be thrown out.  Here are the restaurants where it happened and how they fixed the problems.

The Patron Restaurant at 7610 Left Flank Road in Hanover had 5 critical violations, plus 10 non-critical, including a fly in some food, numerous flies in the facility, and it was inadequately cooling food.  We spoke with the manager by phone, who told us they had pest control spray the next day and they keep the back door shut now.  He says they also fax a regular food cooling report to the Health Department, and that everything is now fixed.

Next up, Paradise Biryani Pointe at 3621 Cox Road in Henrico.  Last summer, the owner showed us he installed cameras in the kitchen to make sure things are done right.  But it had 6 critical violations and 12 non-critical on it's last inspection, including roaches throughout the kitchen.  When the inspector returned 10 days later, the report says some cleaning had been done, and a maintenance person would take over, but roaches were still a problem.  Then two weeks later, the report showed there were no roaches, violations were corrected, and the restaurant's permit was renewed.  We tried to contact management, but haven't heard back yet.

And finally, New York Asian Cafe at 13555 Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield had 4 critical violations, including that chicken was received at inadequate temperatures.  The report says it should have been rejected because it wasn't at least 140 degrees.  It was thrown out.
