LOUISA, VA (WWBT) -

One person was killed following a two-vehicle crash in Louisa County on Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 8:45 a.m. in the 1800 block of Belle Meade Road.

Virginia State Police say a 2007 Hyundai Elantra was traveling north on Belle Meade Road when it crossed over into the southbound lane, striking a 2005 Volvo head-on.

The driver of the 2005 Volvo, 28-year-old Sara D. Thaw of Bumpass, was transported to UVA Hospital via med-flight with serious injuries.  A 1-year-old in her car had been properly restrained and was unhurt.

The driver of the Hyundai, 18-year-old Michael S. Phillips, also of Bumpass, died at the scene. Troopers say both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Speed is being considered a factor in the crash.
