VARINA, VA (WWBT) - Dominion Virginia Power plans to meet with Varina residents Wednesday over a proposed power substation.
The planned site is at 7000 Osborne Turnpike, a few miles from the Richmond City line. Some neighbors are concerned about electromagnetic fields, noise pollution and impact on property values.
Dominion Virginia Power says not to worry - a 500-foot buffer and a berm and tress will shield the power station from homes. It's also far away enough that no one should have health concerns.
The power company says more electricity is sorely needed in the area with the growing development and people moving in.
Neighbors are looking to get all of their concerns answered at a meeting Wednesday with Dominion from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church at 1384 New Market Road.
