HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - The Hanover County Sheriff's Office says a 5-year-old child accidentally shot the 7-year-old that was med-flighted to the hospital over the weekend.

Investigators say the children found the gun while the family was visiting a home for sale in the 20000 block of Beaverdam Road. The children had followed a cat into a bedroom, and one crawled under the bed after it - where the handgun was stored.

The 7-year-old victim was shot in the leg and transported by med-flight to VCU Medical Center.

The Sheriff's Office says after conferring with the Hanover County Commonwealth's Attorney, no criminal charges will be filed.
