Funeral services set for Chesterfield toddler who drowned in pool

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A 2-year-old girl is dead in Chesterfield, the apparent victim of an accidental drowning.

Police say Addyson Dawson was with relatives in a swimming pool at a home on Stanley Drive Wednesday afternoon, when she became unresponsive in the water. She was taken out of the pool and given CPR. Police and firefighters arrived on scene and rushed the child to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Chesterfield Police are investigating, but at this time say foul play is not suspected.

The family issued the following statement on Thursday:

We the family of Addyson Dawson are grieving the loss of this wonderful ray of sunshine. This tragic accident has affected so many of us. As such, we would appreciate our privacy in our time of mourning. We do appreciate the outpouring of love and support and ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Addyson, please do so to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.

A public visitation will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road
N in Chesterfield. The funeral ceremony will be Sunday at 2 p.m., also at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, which will be followed by a private interment.
