CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A tractor trailer driver is now charged in a five-vehicle crash that's caused major backups on Route 288 South in Chesterfield.
State Police tell us around 5:39 p.m., traffic was stopped on Route 288 north of Hull Street Road when a 2015 Peterbilt tractor trailer swerved to the right shoulder, hitting two other vehicles. They say a Honda Civic got rear ended by the Peterbilt and then rear ended a black Ford Explorer.
Troopers say that Ford was also struck by the tractor trailer and was lodged underneath the trailer when it overturned. They say the tractor trailer then sideswiped a Toyota 4Runner and also struck a Mercedes Benz in the rear.
The driver of the Ford Explorer has minor injuries.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Leonard Dean, Jr. of Florida was charged with reckless driving. The tractor trailer was loaded with laminate flooring.
Traffic was backed up about three miles for much of the evening, with only one lane of traffic open much of the time. By 11 p.m. all lanes were back open, and traffic was again starting to flow normally again.
