DOSWELL, VA (WWBT) - The historic stand-up roller coaster "Shockwave" will see its last set of riders this year. Kings Dominion will retire the ride this summer.
The ride will be closed after Sunday, August 9, for future growth in the Candy Apple Grove section.
The ride was manufactured in 1986 by TOGO, and featured a unique experience where riders would stand up rather than sit down. The train climbs 95 feet before dropping into a loop, taking riders up to speeds of 50 MPH.
Over 22 million people have been on the roller coaster. The ride will close on August 9 at 10 p.m.
