AMELIA, VA (WWBT) - Virginia State Police have identified the teenage victim of a fatal crash in Amelia County.

According to Virginia State Police, Braxton-Hicks, 17,  was not wearing her seat belt

The crash happened around 11:40 p.m. Sunday along Genito Road near Archers Creek Lane.

Juan Whittington walks through the field in Amelia county where Braxton-Hicks lost her life. He owns the three homes on the property. "It was shocking to learn that someone died there." Whittington said.

He lives close by but didn't hear anything.

Police say just before midnight on Sunday night, Braxton Hicks was traveling in the area when her Geo Prism crashed.

Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol was a factor. It happened on Genito road west of route 632. Glass and debris from the crash is still left behind.

Whittington says he knows the road can be tough to navigate in this area and accidents can be a problem but he says in more than 50 years.. "Never heard of an any fatalities in this particular area," he said.

But he says he knows what it feels like to lose a child and his heart goes out to the victims family. "Having lost a 10-year-old daughter in a crash 10 years ago, I really feel for anyone that looses a child." he said.
