Gas prices lowest since 2010 heading into July 4th weekend

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Whether it's going to the job, or ever to church, millions will hit the road during the Fourth of July holiday. Drivers can expect to save cash because of lower gas prices.

"It will save people some money. The less they put in the gas tank the more they spend on their vacation," Elaine Evans said.

Dave Georgy is filling up his tank and at the same time breathing a sigh of relief, especially when he thinks about how much it took last year at this same time to fill up his tank.

"It's nice to have the gas prices to go back to being lower because it was very high last year, but its better now," he said.

AAA reports the average cost of gas in Virginia is $2.58 per gallon. One year ago it was $3.48, which means this year you could likely save nearly a dollar per gallon when traveling.

"I really appreciate because sometimes the struggle is real and any little change you can save is a blessing," Mark Johnson said.

Debbie Price and her husband are already reaping the benefits of cheaper gas prices.

"We traveled from Roanoke to Gloucester, VA and we are on our way back home so the lower gas prices are very good for us," she said.

Experts recommend to take advantage before those prices go up.
