RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Yard sales are going from the driveway to online, bringing a new way to clear the house and make money.
As a mother of two, Kimberly Jones can tell you...kids accumulate a lot of stuff. Books, clothing and toys only last for so long with growing children. Jones figured she could at least make some money clearing house and Varagesale was her platform to do it.
"I went crazy selling stuff there," said Jones. "There are categories. Recently I've been selling bathing suits. You click on clothing, women and then it gives you categories."
The search feature makes it really easy for bargain hunters to find what they're looking for. Jones thinks your description, grouping and price are what really move items. Whether it's cash, check or PayPal, you choose how you get paid. For pickup Jones picks an area near where she lives.
"I prefer a porch pickup where I put my things out," she said, but she's also willing to meet in public.
Varagesale is also an avenue for Jones to expand her business of personalized wreaths and coasters. Between the business and the family's stuff, she's netted thousands of dollars.
"It's fun! You feel good because you're helping people out and you're also making money and it adds up," she said.
