Man in stable condition after James River rescue

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The Richmond Fire Department on Sunday rescued a man who they said was in distress in the James River.

The Fire Department said the call came in around 3:45 p.m. Sunday for a person in distress 30 feet north of the Hollywood Rapids. A bike team was already on the island when fire crews were dispatched to the scene. 

The bike team made contact with the stranded man around 4 p.m. 

After retrieving the man who was stranded, authorities took him to an area hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Sunday afternoon, the Fire Department said the man was listed in stable condition.
