Elephant Auto Insurance to expand in Henrico, bring 1,173 jobs

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - In just a few short years, Elephant Auto Insurance has steadily expanded its workforce at its headquarters in Glen Allen. Right now, there are just over 400 employees, but in just a few years the company hopes to quadruple its workforce. And they want candidates to apply now.

The company is expanding its headquarters in Henrico County, creating 1,173 new jobs in the area, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced on Tuesday.

McAuliffe made the announcement following a meeting in Cardiff with officials from Elephant's parent company, Admiral Group plc, during his European marketing mission.

"I think anyone who is enthusiastic, who really wants to build a career, you don't have to have insurance experience to join us," says Elephant CEO Kevin Chidwick. "Our culture is unusual, we like to keep things very friendly."

And while they are selling car insurance, loving where you work is encouraged. "They go ahead and make you a partner in the business they believe people who work, people who enjoy what they do, do it better and it's really true here," says Holli Flowers who works in the marketing department.

The available positions are company-wide, from sales to marketing to IT. Chidwick says Richmond is an ideal area to pool employees from. "People are enthusiastic we found a very good rich pool of good quality people have come into the business so far," he said.

"Helping existing Virginia businesses grow is a key part of my administration's efforts to build a new Virginia economy, and we are excited that Elephant has chosen to expand in our great Commonwealth," said McAuliffe.

Admiral Group plc will invest $2 million into the expansion.

"The labor force here is excellent – well educated, friendly, hard-working, honest, analytical, creative," Chidwick said.
