HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Henrico Fire crews pulled a body from the James River near Pony Pasture while investigating a possible sighting of a canoeist missing since Monday evening.

Crews were searching the river near the 9100 block of Cherokee Road after the reported sighting when they pulled the body from the Z Dam around 12:30 p.m. The sighting is in the same area where the canoeist overturned on Monday, though right now there's no indication whether the body is the missing canoeist.

Crews have searched since the report around 5:30 p.m. Monday, but until now have only been able to recover the empty canoe.

One person from the canoe was able to swim to shore, but a second person wasn't wearing a life vest when the canoe overturned.
