Henrico FD: Burning tree stumps led to Varina fire

VARINA, VA (WWBT) - Henrico County Fire Department has brought a fire under control in Varina, after they say a detached garage caught fire and the fire spread to nearby land.

According to the fire department, the fire started in a residential garage in the 1500 block of Mill Road in Varina, but spread to the surrounding area. Two acres of land needed to be sprayed down with water to bring the brush fire under control.

The call came in around 2:15 p.m. Monday, the department said. First arriving units reported heavy fire coming from a 30' x 30' detached garage, a 12' x 18' shed, a backhoe, and three acres of land surrounding the garage. Henrico Fire Department Capt. Danny Rosenbaum also said three vehicles -- two in the garage and one more outside -- were involved in the fire.

The fire caused significant damage to the garage, shed, backhoe, three vehicles and the land surrounding, but Rosenbaum said crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the main residence.

No injuries were reported from the fire, and Rosenbaum said the family will not be displaced due to the fire.
