Virginia State Police are on scene of a multi-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 95 at mile marker 101, at the Hanover/Caroline County line.

Troopers say the accident happened around 9:44, and involves several vehicles with serious injuries.

All southbound lanes were shut down for a time, creating a backup of seven miles.  As of 11:20, all lanes have re-opened, but the shoulder remains closed.

One lane of northbound I-95 was also closed at mile marker 101, to allow southbound traffic between Exit 104 and the incident  to be diverted and detoured to Exit 104. That northbound lane has since re-opened to regular traffic.
