VCU baseball tops Oregon State to stay perfect in region

DALLAS, TX (WWBT/AP) -

Heath Dwyer pitched 6 1/3 strong innings and Vimael Machin had three hits and two RBIs to lead VCU past Oregon State 5-1 in the Dallas Regional on Sunday.

The Rams (39-22), the only No. 4 seed to win its first two regional games this year, are a victory from their first appearance in the Super Regionals since the field was expanded to 64 teams in 1999.

Oregon State (39-17-1) was scheduled to face regional host Dallas Baptist (44-14) Sunday night in an elimination game, with the winner advancing to play the Rams on Monday.

Beavers starter Drew Rasmussen (7-4) left after allowing three runs in the fourth and two quick baserunners in the fifth. Machin then doubled home the runners to extend VCU's lead to 5-0.

The Beavers scored in the seventh and put two runners on against Dwyer (10-2), but reliever Daniel Concepcion got an inning-ending double play.
