RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Keeping kids busy on summer vacation can be tough, but experts have tips to make your car or plane trip just a little bit easier.
Some of them are obvious; pack snacks and activities to keep everyone full and busy. You might consider channeling Mary Poppins and stuffing a bag full of food and distractions. Allow some extra time for everything you do, kids tend to need it. That way, your family won't be feeling the pressure to make it from stop to stop.
Here's a unique tip: Christa Donohue with RichmondMom.com suggests bringing a camera for each of your children, even an inexpensive one to help them document the trip. Consider giving them specific challenges for the travel part of the trip, like finding a yellow car or a tall building and give each child a travel journal to document vacations in.
"Even very young kids can draw pictures and then each trip you go on, you pull out the travel journal and you can see the progression from drawing some pictures to adding some words and really going back to enjoy the trips you're making," said Donohue.
She says it can also serve as a memory book later. You can also help share your best tips on our Facebook page.
