CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - An accidental fire in the kitchen led to six Chesterfield residents being displaced from their Turner Road home early Tuesday.
Chesterfield County fire and EMS units responded to the scene of the fire around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of Turner Road. According to the fire department, fire and smoke were seen coming from the home when units arrived. Crews took about 35 minutes to get the fire under control, and Turner Road was closed down to traffic due to the need for running a fire hose from the hydrant across from the home.
Six people in the home escaped uninjured, and the Red Cross is assisting them, the fire department said. Investigation revealed the cause of the fire was a pan of oil that had melted on the stove.
