RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Dominion Power says a downed power line is to blame for a power outage affecting around 3,000 customers in south Richmond Monday night, but for many customers, power might not be back on until the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
The outage is the second one in as many nights for the area, following transformer problems on Sunday night that plunged parts of south Richmond into darkness.
According to Dominion, the power line came down near the Walmart store on Sheila Lane. About 3,000 customers are affected, according to
as of 8 p.m. Monday. The Dominion representative who confirmed the outage details for NBC12 said repairs to the power line are underway, and in the meantime Dominion is working to re-route electricity to 1,900 of those customers. For the remaining 900 customers, they'll have to wait a few more hours. Repairs are taking a bit longer than expected, but crews are working as fast as they can.
The main issue seems to be a weak point in the wire where the power lines connect. A connector went bad and failed.
In all, Dominion says only about 2,800 customers were impacted by this situation.
