Richmond Police investigating Hillside Court homicide

Richmond Police are investigating a homicide Saturday morning in Hillside Court.

It happened around 5:35 a.m. in the 1800 block of Southlawn Avenue. Police found the victim, an adult male, lying in the grass between two apartment buildings.

Police say the man was shot in the chest. A mother of 5 is in shock after the shooting outside of her Hillside Court Apartment earlier today.

"They can't even go outside and play.  I can't even trust them to go to the playground which is just across the street," the concerned mother said.
The mother of 5, who did not want her identity revealed, is breathing a sigh of relief tonight.

Her daughters were sleeping on their living room couch early Saturday morning and were unaware of the horrific events that were unfolding just outside their front door.
"They say the heard shots about three o'clock this morning but they stayed right there because, unfortunately in our neighborhood, they are like a doorbell,' another mother said.
Police say upon arriving, they found a man lying in the grass between two apartment buildings. One mother says she isn't surprised by the crime but rather concerned for her children's safety.
"I have to watch them constantly--they can't even play outside the door without me every five seconds being at the door."
Hours after that murder the Richmond police mobile command center was on scene as part of Chief Al Durham's 48 hour plan.; a plan this mother hopes does some good for her community, at least for her children's sake.

"It's frightening and hopefully they catch whoever did it."
