RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced a major movie will be filmed in Central Virginia based on the story of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving.
The Virginia couple married in 1958, violating a state law that prohibited interracial marriage.
They both were arrested. Their case eventually made its way to the Supreme Court.
"Loving is a significant American story that should be told," said McAuliffe.
The documentary inspired the new film.
The film will star Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton and will be directed by film director Jeff Nichols.
