CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Witnesses say they found an elementary school student wandering on Route 10 on Thursday afternoon.
A man driving a truck down the road nearly struck the boy, according to witnesses. He pulled over and rushed the child to safety. Two witnesses say the boy could not communicate his name or understand the situation. The man and two witnesses then took the boy back to Enon Elementary School, where they say teachers had just noticed the child was missing from the playground.
Chesterfield police confirm their officers performed a welfare check on a student at Enon Elementary and report he is doing well.
It's not clear how the child managed to walk off the school's campus unnoticed.
Chesterfield school officials say the school has been in direct contact with the family, but refused further comment citing federal privacy laws.
