Chesterfield businesses plunged into darkness

About 8,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers in Chesterfield lost their electricity Tuesday night when a tree fell on a power line, and thousands were still out even crews had restored power to some areas.

The outage happened around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, plunging several businesses along Hull Street in Midlothian into darkness. Crews removed the tree and worked to restore power, which was restored to the area by about 9:20 p.m., a Dominion representative said.

As of 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, Dominion's website still showed more than 5,000 customers in Chesterfield who were waiting to have their power restored.
