Did you know that 1 in 3 Americans are at risk for kidney disease? The major risk factors are diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of kidney failure and being age 60 or older. Being aware of the risk factors is the first step in prevention.
Unfortunately, many times kidney disease often has no symptoms and it can go undetected until it is at the advanced stage. So how do you know if you are at risk? That's simple and easy. A urine test is the best way to know if you have kidney disease. Remember it is really important to get tested, because early detection allows you and your doctor to come up with a lifestyle and treatment plan to slow or prevent kidney disease.
The good news is that The National Kidney Foundation is the leading organization in the United States that is dedicated to awareness and treatment for tens of millions of Americans at risk and we have local offices right here in Central Virginia.
