HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A Henrico auto mechanic says he thought he had won $250,000 in the April 21 Mega Millions drawing, and he was happy about that. He was wrong: he had actually won $1 million.
Charles Bibbs matched the first five numbers in the April 21 drawing. "I had to look at the ticket 20 or 30 times," he said. "I couldn't believe it." The winning numbers were 31-33-35-41-69, which matched Bibbs' numbers. The only number he didn't match was the Mega Ball number, 11. Lottery officials said had Bibbs matched all six numbers, he would have won a jackpot estimated at $65 million.
Bibbs bought his winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 5200 Williamsburg Road in Henrico. On April 27, he and his wife Deborah returned to the store to receive a check from the Virginia Lottery. Lottery officials also awarded a $10,000 bonus to the store for selling the winning ticket.
Bibbs, who was the only person in Virginia to win Mega Millions' second prize in that drawing, and one of just three nationwide, said he has no immediate plans for his winnings.
