CAROLINE, VA (WWBT) - An 86-year-old man faces reckless driving charges for hitting a Caroline County Deputy Sheriff with his car.
Herbert Hines was driving on Route 207 around 7:10 a.m. Monday when he hit Sgt. Chris Hall who was directing traffic near Carolina High School, according to Virginia State Police.
The deputy was wearing a reflective vest equipped with LED lights and using a traffic baton, according to investigators. He was flown by helicopter to VCU Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. All initial scans and tests so far have been reported as "positive," according to the Sheriffs Office on Facebook. Sheriff Tony Lippa asks everyone "to please keep Chris Hall and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers from this incident".
Police charged Hines with reckless driving and say the crash remains under investigation.
