You may or may not know that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Ordinary Citizens and the City of Richmond along with numerous civic and non-profit organizations are leading the way to heighten the awareness of Sexual Assault.
The most important thing that can happen when someone is the victim of sexual assault, is that the victim, must not feel that somehow it was their fault. Family, friends and law enforcement must provide a safe environment that will lead to discussion, healing and the apprehension of the assailant.
In an effort to give the public a role to play, on Tuesday April 21st, the City of Richmond will launch a unique public awareness campaign that focuses on an individual's response to a complaint of sexual assault.
This national campaign that will be adopted locally is called Start by Believing.
Start by Believing, encourages positive supportive response and kindness to the victim.
