RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A man is behind bars, accused of stabbing a driver on board a GRTC bus.
It happened on Bellevue Avenue near Chevy Chase Street around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Detectives say moments before the stabbing, the suspect and another man asked the driver if she could drop them off at a home before returning to the bus barn. The driver said no.
The suspect and the other man got off the bus; however, police say as soon as they got off, the suspect ran back, got inside the bus and stabbed the driver in the arm.
Medics rushed her to VCU Medical Center. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Police say the suspect is behind bars, and charges are pending.
GRTC sent a statement late Tuesday night saying their buses are equipped with surveillance video, which they plan to review to help with the investigation.
