Meningitis case confirmed at JTCC Midlothian campus

MIDLOTHIAN, VA (WWBT) -

John Tyler Community College confirmed on Thursday that one of its students has been diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.

The college's president, Edward "Ted" Raspiller, emailed students on Thursday to say that a student who attends JTCC's Midlothian campus had been diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, and that the Chesterfield Health District has already identified close contacts of the student, "who may require treatment with antibiotics to prevent the spread of illness."

The letter goes on to list several exposure prevention tips, and to say that a vaccine is available for select age groups and risk criteria.
