"Whoever did this -turn yourself in! Please! Do it, turn yourself in," cries Deadra Swilley.

These are the tearful, heartbroken pleas of Steffond Swilley's family.

"Somebody knows something. Something knows something. This hurts me to my heart, everybody knows me.. this hurts me, this is my little brother," sobs Steffond's sister, Deja Spivey.

The Petersburg teen was out on spring break visiting his dad in the Chester neighborhood.

The family says he was looking for his brother, a block from the house, when the accident happened.

"I jumped out the car, I jumped out the car and it was him.. my son, my son. And my other son jumped out, he's 11.-and he was like my brother, my brother," remembers Steffond stepmom, Deadra.

Police say an unknown driver, in an unknown vehicle- hit Steffond Swilley and took off -leaving the teen lying in the street.

His family tells NBC12 he was pronounced dead early Wednesday morning.

Hours later, police were going door to door searching for clues and talking to residents.

"Somebody seen something. Please talk," begs Steffond's dad, Steffond, Senior.

While police continue their investigation, the Swilley family must do the unthinking and prepare to bury a child that had so much promise.

"He was a good kid. A hardworking kid -he set the example for other children and he always and he always be with his dad .. always with me," remembers his dad sadly.
